“CUZ Stock Sucks.” You might remember this catch phrase from our last issue that pictured a tricked out Yamaha Rhino that looked anything but stock. Well the guys down at SDHQ have worked their magic to create a new Super Duty Machine. Off-road trucks are bigger then ever, and even people that don't off road, gotta have one. This Arizona based company has taken a 2000 Ford Ranger and turned it into one hell'uva flyer. From bumper to bumper this truck is about as custom as you can get. Super Duty Head Quarters (SDHQ) took this originally wimpy looking Ranger and turned it into a high flying, sand spitting machine.
You might remember a bit about SDHQ, but if your memory is anything like mine here is a brief refresher. (Like when it's time to turn those tighty whities inside out again). These hard core guys have been fabricating custom parts for over 7 years. They have done work for some very well known clients including NFL, NASCAR, and MLB Players. They have the ultimate capabilities to take any lame, stock ride, whether it be a Rhino, or a truck and create a masterful, completely custom off road annihilator and that is just what they did for Larry Mcgowan, the driver of this 2WD radical Ranger.
When I first laid eyes on this extended cab Ranger, all I could think was, “man that thing is going to fly.” Larry started out slow, as there had been a rather large, truck accident earlier that morning, but it didn’t take long to get up to speed. After scooping out a few dunes Larry found a perfect spot to take-off, and caught me off guard when his Ford Ranger took it’s first flight. This little Ford Ranger sports a Camburg long travel front suspension with Sway-A-Way shocks. For the rear suspension, SDHQ used their custom 4 link, with by-pass shocks and coil overs, made by Fox Racing. With all this impressive suspension landing jumps with this Ford Ranger looked not only fun, but effortless.
Not only is the exterior completely custom, but the interior is as well. The truck contains a custom aluminum dash consol. A new race radio and stereo has been installed to keep up the adrenaline flow and talk to your buddies. The factory seats were replaced with Beardseats and Crow restraint systems, to keep you head from smacking the ceiling, yet still be comfortable for those long drives out to the desert. SDHQ thought of it all when they built this Super Duty Ranger. So what’s next for the guys at SDHQ? Well whatever it is, I guarantee you it wont be stock!
